Officers in West Palm Beach accused of reaching 119 mph during pursuit leading to fatal crash.
WPTV has uncovered new information regarding the arrests of seven West Palm Beach police officers following a tragic crash in Boynton Beach that resulted in the deaths of two women last year. The incident occurred when Neoni Copeland of Boynton Beach, who was 23 years old at the time, was fleeing from West Palm Beach Police Department officers at a high speed and ultimately crashed into another vehicle on North Congress Avenue on July 30, 2024. The occupants of the other vehicle, Marcia Pochette, 57, and her pregnant daughter, Jenice Woods, 27, lost their lives in the collision. The officers involved in the pursuit, which reached speeds of up to 119 mph, failed to render aid to the crash victims and did not inform emergency services. The arrested officers face charges including leaving the scene of a crash involving death and official misconduct. West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James expressed concern over the situation, emphasizing the city's commitment to public safety and transparency. Relatives of the victims have expressed frustration and grief, believing that the high-speed chase was unnecessary and that the officers should face severe consequences for their actions. Junel Pochette, who lost his wife and daughter in the crash, is seeking justice and hopes that the officers will be held accountable for their actions.
