Officer who was speeding without lights or sirens before fatal crash resigns

A former Louisville Metro police officer who was suspended from the force following a fatal crash has chosen to resign. According to LMPD, Alyssa Begel resigned and the chief accepted her resignation, effective last Wednesday. The incident occurred on April 2 at around 9 p.m. when Begel, responding to an EMS call, was involved in a collision on Fern Valley Road. Sadly, 61-year-old Charles Briscoe, the driver of the other vehicle, passed away at the scene. After an investigation, authorities found that Begel did not activate her lights or sirens and was speeding at the time. Despite not facing charges, an indictment was not issued against her by the grand jury due to insufficient evidence. Following a period of administrative leave and a subsequent 30-day suspension, Begel decided to resign before completing the suspension.
