
Off-duty NYPD officer killed in motorcycle crash honored at funeral
Last Wednesday, a farewell ceremony was held for an NYPD officer who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Officer Jay Peña, 33, was riding off duty when his motorcycle collided with a box truck near Atlantic Avenue. The driver of the truck fled the scene but was later apprehended on charges related to the incident. Officer Peña, a dedicated member of the NYPD's 48th Precinct in the Bronx, was remembered as a devoted officer, son, and friend at the funeral that took place at Our Lady of Angels Church in Bay Ridge. Over 100 officers paid their respects, recalling his positive impact on the force. The private service was attended by Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, along with friends and family sharing heartfelt memories of Officer Peña.
