Off-duty deputy from LA County dies in crash on 101 Freeway in North Hollywood
An off-duty Los Angeles County deputy tragically lost his life in a two-car collision on the 101 Freeway in North Hollywood. The victim, 31-year-old Deputy Marcos Pena Jr., had recently joined the department in 2022. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna expressed deep sorrow at the sudden loss of Deputy Pena Jr. and offered condolences to his loved ones. The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m., when Pena's vehicle stopped on the freeway for unknown reasons, leading to a collision with a box truck. Unfortunately, both Pena and a female passenger lost their lives. The freeway closures caused by the crash were cleared by 7:30 a.m. The California Highway Patrol is urging anyone with information about the accident to contact Officer Cody Sturges at the West Valley station.
