Oakland man faces charges in fatal San Leandro hit-and-run crash

(KRON) -- An Oakland resident faces multiple charges tied to a fatal hit-and-run collision last month in San Leandro. The San Leandro Police Department said officers responded on Monday, May 11 around 5 p.m. on the 14400 block of Corvallis Street for several reports of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving two vehicles. "Responding officers located an adult female San Leandro resident in her 50’s suffering from injuries related to the collision. The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving the involved vehicle behind," said SLPD in a statement to KRON4. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.SLPD said traffic unit officers took over the investigation and gathered evidence that soon led to the suspect being identified as 32-year-old Chuliao Wu.Wu was arrested on May 28 and booked for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit and run. Police said charges were filed the next day by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends, coworkers, and everyone affected by this loss,” said Lieutenant Jeff Walton of San Leandro police. “This case required a coordinated effort across multiple units and demonstrates the commitment of our personnel to thoroughly investigate serious incidents." The investigation remains active.
