NYPD officers and civilian critically injured in crash with suspected drunk driver

A crash involving three cars, including a police car, occurred in Brooklyn resulting in four people being hospitalized, including two New York City Police officers in critical condition. One of the drivers involved has been charged with driving under the influence. The incident happened after 2 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Coney Island Avenue and Avenue U in Homecrest. Diyorjon Sobirjonov, 24, collided with a vehicle on Avenue U before crashing into the police car on Coney Island Avenue. Witness Demetro described the crash as sounding like a bomb going off. The two officers in the police car, both 34 years old, sustained critical injuries. Two passengers in Sobirjonov's car were also injured, with one in stable condition and the other in critical condition. The driver and passenger of the third vehicle declined medical assistance. Sobirjonov, believed to be intoxicated, was arrested at the scene and is facing multiple charges, including DWI and reckless endangerment.
