Nyheim Hines agrees with Chargers 2 years post jet ski mishap: report
Running back Nyheim Hines is set to return to the football field, ending a two-season absence caused by an injury from a Jet Ski accident. The 28-year-old has secured a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, as per an ESPN report. Hines suffered an ACL tear in July 2023 during the accident, while playing for the Buffalo Bills. Despite signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2024, he wasn't able to play due to the same injury. Hines faces tough competition for a roster spot, contending with players like Hassan Haskins, Kimani Vidal, and Jaret Patterson for a backup running back position. The Chargers, having drafted Omarion Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and signed Najee Harris, have their top two running backs set. Harris, who has had four consecutive seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards, is expected to start training camp on the non-football injury list following a fireworks-related eye injury on July 4. Throughout his career, Hines has shown versatility as a running back, with 1,202 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 240 catches for 1,778 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He has also been successful on special teams, tallying two punt return touchdowns and two kick return touchdowns.
