NYC fatal crash: Drunk driver sentenced to 24 years-to-life
A New Jersey man who was found guilty of causing a fatal crash while driving drunk at a Fourth of July celebration in New York City has been sentenced to 24 years-to-life in state prison. Daniel Hyden was convicted on 12 counts, including second-degree murder, for causing the deaths of Lucille Pinkney, Herman Pinkney, Ana Morel, and Emily Ruiz during the incident in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg hopes the sentencing provides some comfort to those affected by the tragic event. Hyden was intoxicated and speeding when he crashed into a crowd at Corlears Hook Park in 2024, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to several others. Despite claims of injury hindering his control, the judge rejected Hyden's defense arguments.
