Numerous injuries from box truck flipping on Boston sidewalk.
Multiple pedestrians were injured in downtown Boston on Tuesday when a box truck veered onto the sidewalk during the busy lunch hour, causing it to crash onto its side, according to Boston Fire officials. The incident happened around 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue near Chinatown. Emergency responders arrived to find a yellow Penske rental truck overturned on the sidewalk. The area, known for its bustling restaurants and pedestrian traffic, was impacted by the crash. Boston EMS reported that six people were injured, with four individuals being transported to nearby hospitals. Of those taken by ambulance, three were brought to Tufts Medical Center, with varying conditions ranging from fair to critical. Two others were treated at the scene and one was taken to Mass. General. The truck driver was trapped inside the cab and had to be extricated by firefighters. The truck had struck multiple poles and was wedged between a pole and a building. Significant damage was also seen at a ramen restaurant nearby, and debris scattered the area. Kneeland Street was closed off, causing traffic delays in the area. Officials are currently investigating the incident and are looking into whether the driver could have experienced a medical emergency. Penske, the truck rental company, expressed cooperation with authorities in their investigation. Tufts Medical Center engaged its mass casualty response to effectively handle the situation.
