NTSB's Initial Findings on Deadly Lake Pontchartrain Plane Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board has shared initial findings from its inquiry into the recent plane accident near New Orleans. On the evening of November 24, 2025, a Cessna 172N airplane, primarily used for training and personal flights, crashed into Lake Pontchartrain. Tragically, both the flight instructor and the pilot lost their lives. The plane had departed from Gulfport, Mississippi, and was headed towards Lakefront Airport in New Orleans. Preliminary data shows that as the aircraft approached the airport, it made a sharp descending left turn before ultimately crashing into the water. The wreckage was recovered on December 3, 2025, and has been taken for further examination. Keep in mind that these findings are provisional and may be updated as the investigation progresses.
