NTSB to thoroughly investigate fatal Hudson River helicopter crash
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) held a news conference at Jersey City Hall, stating that they are exploring all possibilities in the investigation of the tragic crash of a tour helicopter in the Hudson River. They are particularly looking into witness accounts of a large group of birds in the vicinity before the incident. The helicopter, operated by New York Helicopters, went down in the Hudson River near Jersey City with six individuals on board, all of whom unfortunately perished. The pilot, who had over 700 hours of total flight time, was reportedly in communication about needing fuel before the crash. The NTSB is still piecing together the timeline of events leading up to the accident and is examining witness reports for additional insights. Additionally, the agency is requesting the public to provide any relevant photos, videos, or information that might aid in the investigation. The FAA has confirmed the flight path of the helicopter, which departed from downtown Manhattan before turning southward and eventually crashing near Hoboken. The NTSB emphasized the importance of safety regulations for air tours and mentioned past recommendations for enhanced safety measures, particularly for Part 91 operations. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis and others have expressed concerns regarding tour helicopters flying over neighborhoods, and the NTSB emphasized the need for safety improvements based on previous incidents. The investigation into the Hudson River crash will continue, with authorities working to address concerns and provide support to the families affected by the tragedy.
