NTSB Releases Final Report on I-95 Collapse After 2023 Fatal Crash

On June 11, 2023, a truck carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline lost control while exiting I-95, causing a fire that led to the collapse of the highway. Following a thorough investigation, the NTSB released their final report on the incident. The truck driver was traveling at a speed above the advised limit on the exit ramp, resulting in the vehicle flipping, catching fire, and causing the freeway to buckle and fall. Unfortunately, the driver did not survive the crash. Governor Josh Shapiro promptly declared a disaster emergency to expedite the repair process and ensure access to necessary resources. Temporary repairs were made with help from a local company, and 12 days later, the northbound lanes were reopened, bringing relief to commuters. The highway was fully reopened on May 23, 2024, less than a year after the initial incident.
