NTSB probing deadly Ashland County plane crash
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently looking into the small aircraft crash that occurred in Ashland County on Monday night. Officials from the NTSB will be speaking to the media at the Polk Jackson Perry Fire District station in Polk at 3 p.m. Yesterday, a single-engine Express 2000 FT aircraft, piloted by 72-year-old Gary Wolfelt from Indiana, crashed near state Route 89 and Township Road 902 in Jackson Township. Unfortunately, Wolfelt did not survive the crash, and he was the sole occupant of the plane. The plane had taken off from Burke Lakefront Airport, and Wolfelt was on his way back home when the incident happened. While the cause of the crash is still unknown, authorities are considering the possibility of severe weather playing a role. The investigation also involves the Federal Aviation Administration and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
