
Northbound U.S. 31 reopened after reported crash caused serious injuries
Update (4:56 p.m.) According to officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation, all lanes of U.S. 31 at State Road 38 have been reopened after Tuesday afternoon's crash. Original Story HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A portion of U.S. 31 is closed after a reported crash that caused injuries to three men. According to officials with the Westfield Police Department, the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 are closed at the 136-mile marker because of a crash investigation. The crash reportedly occurred around 1:53 p.m. and one vehicle, a small pickup truck, was involved. The department said the pickup truck was reportedly traveling northbound on U.S. 31 when a tire blew, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck reportedly struck a concrete barrier on the highway and came into rest in the center median. The driver of the vehicle was found unconscious inside the vehicle. A passenger in the front seat was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and was located "a short distance away." A third passenger was in the back seat and reportedly sustained minor injuries to his face. Officials said the driver and the front seat passenger were transported to a local hospital for "significant but unknown" injuries. Officials said that traffic is being diverted off at the State Road 38 exit as the investigation into the crash continues.
