No flight data recorders on helicopter in Hudson River crash
As the search continues for crucial parts of the helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River, investigators face a challenge due to the absence of usual evidence like flight recorders. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the helicopter lacked onboard video or camera recorders and avionics data that could aid in the investigation. The tragic accident resulted in the loss of a family of five from Spain and the pilot. Divers from the New York Police Department are focusing on locating specific helicopter components, with the NTSB utilizing side-scanning sonar to pinpoint potential wreckage areas. Lawmakers are pushing for stricter regulations following the incident, with Senator Chuck Schumer suggesting the need for enhanced oversight and training requirements for helicopter tour operators. He urged the FAA to suspend New York Helicopter Tours' operating license pending the outcome of the probe. Schumer also called for increased inspections at other helicopter tour companies in the metro area. Mayor Eric Adams, on the other hand, expressed support for tourism helicopters in the city, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety alongside business and tourism opportunities.
