
New York resident detained after deadly collision in Altona, according to authorities
A man from the North Country is in custody following an incident where he was accused of driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash in Altona on Tuesday evening. New York State Police took Joshua Snide, 35, of Ellenburg into custody after responding to a serious collision on Plank Road around 6 p.m. According to investigations, Snide was driving a pickup truck southbound and attempted an illegal passing maneuver on the left side of a 76-year-old female driver who was in the process of turning left into a driveway. The collision resulted in serious injuries to the victim, a woman from Mooers who later succumbed to her injuries at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Snide initially fled the scene but returned later and subsequently failed a field sobriety test, leading to his arrest. He was found to be intoxicated based on a breath sample taken at the Champlain Barracks. Snide now faces multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and various traffic violations. He was presented before a judge, who ordered him to be held at Clinton County Jail on bail of $8,000 in cash or $25,000 bond.
