New prosecutors charge murder in Murray shed fire previously deemed accidental

The tragic incident in which 27-year-old Morgan Kay Harris lost her life in a fire while locked in a storage shed in Murray was initially deemed an accident by the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office after an extensive investigation. However, the Utah Attorney General's Office has now refuted this conclusion, asserting that Harris's death was not accidental, possibly due to reckless behavior. The deceased's boyfriend at the time, Alexander Paul Wardell, has been charged with murder and manslaughter in relation to the incident. Additional charges against Wardell include kidnapping and animal cruelty. The investigation unveiled that Wardell had placed Harris in the shed, locked the door, and left the scene, eventually leading to the fatal fire. Despite earlier considerations, the authorities now believe the fire was not set intentionally. District Attorney Sim Gill revealed that there was no evidence to suggest Harris was confined against her will in the shed. This case has raised complex questions about consent and evidence, prompting a thorough evaluation by authorities.
