New Jersey woman charged with DUI after Jeep crashes into swimming pool at resort
A New Jersey woman was arrested and charged after police said she drove drunk and crashed her Jeep into a busy swimming pool at Smugglers' Notch Resort in Cambridge earlier this week.Top video: See previous coverageCourt documents show that the suspect has been charged with driving under the influence, reckless or gross negligence, and two charges of reckless endangerment.NBC5 is choosing not to identify the woman by name due to her age.Police said the crash happened on Monday just after 3:30 p.m. at a pool on Mogul Mouse Drive inside Smugglers' Notch Resort. Photos from the scene show a blue Jeep Cherokee with New Hampshire license plates that smashed through a fence and was submerged in the swimming pool.Several children who were swimming in the pool at the time of the crash, including 9-year-old Joseph Sage, suffered minor injuries. "I just heard a bang and a car went there," said Sage in an interview with NBC5. "It hit my head and pulled me under."Police said the driver failed standard field sobriety tests at the scene of the crash. The vehicle had to be removed by a towing company from the pool. The pool remains closed following the crash.The woman is due in court on Wednesday. If found guilty, she faces up to two years in prison on the DUI charge and and an additional two years on the gross negligent conduct charge. Both charges of reckless endangerment carry a maximum sentence of one year in prison each.
