New information on fatal West Glacier plane crash

A tragic plane crash occurred on Tuesday at Ryan Field near West Glacier, resulting in the death of one person. The Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino reported that emergency responders found a single prop airplane overturned in a ditch near the runway. According to the FAA, the crash was caused by the aircraft's right wing hitting a tree during an attempted go-around. The pilot, who was the only person on board, was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident follows another fatal crash at Ryan Field just 2½ weeks prior. Sheriff Heino acknowledged the challenges of flying in the mountainous terrain of Northwest Montana and emphasized the importance of taking extra precautions. Prior to these accidents, Ryan Field had not experienced any fatal incidents. Sheriff Heino expressed the difficulty of informing families about the loss of their loved ones and appealed for community support in raising awareness about aviation safety measures. MTN News has reached out to the FAA for further information but has yet to receive a response.
