New information on 2-year-old's death in Portillo's accident

New information has surfaced regarding a tragic incident at a suburban Portillo's earlier this week in which a 2-year-old boy lost his life and 13 individuals were injured. The accident occurred when a vehicle crashed into the front entrance of a Portillo's restaurant in Oswego on Route 34 at around 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday. According to Oswego police, eight of the injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals, while the remaining five were treated on site. The hospitalized victims range in age from their 20s to their 60s. The young boy who tragically lost his life was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead. The Kane County coroner's office revealed that the boy's death was a result of severe injuries. Further tests are pending as the investigation unfolds. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a 50-year-old woman from Canton, Michigan, is being examined, and although initial findings suggest the crash was accidental, the exact cause is still being probed. The vehicle in question was identified as a 2011 Lincoln MKZ Sedan. Both Oswego police and the coroner's office are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to this unfortunate incident. We extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and all those affected by this devastating event.
