New Haven police ID woman killed in Woodward Avenue crash into tree

NEW HAVEN — Police have released the identity of a woman who was killed in a Saturday afternoon crash on Woodward Avenue. Jocelyn Hernandez, 23, of West Haven, was killed in the single-car crash into a tree just before 1:30 p.m. in the 600 block, city police Officer Christian Bruckhart said. Hernandez was the front-seat passenger at the time of the crash, according to Bruckhart. The driver of the car, a 20-year-old Bridgeport resident, was seriously injured and remains in critical condition, he said. Another passenger, a 18-year-old from Bridgeport, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Bruckhart said. Bruckhart said the surviving passenger was found outside the car, lying on the ground when crews got to the scene. Bruckhart said the driver and Hernandez were still in the car then. An investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Unit to determine why the car crashed, Bruckhart said.
