Neighbors push for action after 25th crash at deadly intersection

The safety of U.S. Route 42 and Beaver Road has become a growing concern, especially after a fatal crash occurred near the intersection on Tuesday. According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, there have been 24 incidents at the intersection in the past five years, resulting in 14 injuries and two fatalities, excluding the latest collision. Local resident Patricia Goodman, who lives nearby, expressed her worries about the frequency of accidents, urging for action to be taken. Residents who shared their thoughts on our Facebook post on the issue also voiced similar concerns about the dangerous intersection. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet responded by stating their condolences for the recent crash and mentioning ongoing safety assessments. They have already implemented several improvements, such as installing reflective intersection warning beacons and oversized stop signs, as well as improving sight distances and road surfaces. More safety measures, including a traffic signal study requested by the Boone County Judge/Executive, are planned. In response to community feedback, additional patrols will be monitoring the intersection in the near future. Residents are appreciative of the progress made so far, with Goodman noting the effectiveness of the new flashing lights and guardrail. The Boone County Sheriff's Office underscored the importance of road safety, emphasizing the fragility of life.
