Neighbors in Placer County honor victims of fatal Lake Tahoe boating incident.

A friend of one of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a boating accident on Lake Tahoe over the weekend is sharing how they are honoring his memory. The boat overturned near D.L. Bliss State Park during a severe thunderstorm on Saturday. The authorities have now identified the victims, including two from Placer County in Northern California. Thomas Smith and his daughter were on vacation when they found out that their neighbor, 71-year-old Pete Bayes from Lincoln, was among those who perished in the Lake Tahoe accident. Smith spoke fondly of Bayes, emphasizing his helpful and kind nature within the community. Smith recalled Bayes as always being ready to lend a hand, whether it was assisting with chores, taking care of pets, or engaging in friendly conversations with neighbors. Bayes was onboard the boat with his family when it overturned. Among the victims were also Pickles family members, including DoorDash executive Josh Pickles. DoorDash expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to Pickles' family. The youngest person on the boat was 37-year-old Josh Pickles, who was also aboard with his parents. Another local victim, 71-year-old Timothy O'Leary from Auburn, was remembered by neighbors as a kind and generous man who dedicated time to volunteering at a local food bank.
