Native of Kitty Hawk dies in head-on collision
In Farwell, Texas, tragic news struck when Airman Jacob Askew, a member of the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, passed away on November 13, 2025, due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. The collision occurred on November 11th, around 9 p.m., when Askew's vehicle collided with another vehicle on US 70 while traveling in the wrong lane. The crash involved two vehicles, and the other driver, Jesus Eliso Espinoza Madrid, is in critical condition according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Col. Robert Johnston, commander of the 27th SOW, expressed deep sadness over the loss of the young Airman, offering condolences to his loved ones and emphasizing support for them during this difficult time. Askew, 22, was from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and services were held in his honor at Kitty Hawk Methodist Church. Remembered fondly by his high school community, Askew enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating and was assigned to Cannon AFB, where he served diligently as a Security Response Team Member. The tragic accident, which took place under clear weather conditions on US 70 near Farwell, Texas, is currently being investigated.
