Multi-car crash closes eastbound I-70 near the tunnel
DENVER (KDVR) — A multi-vehicle crash has closed eastbound Interstate 70 on Friday. The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office posted on X just before 11 a.m. about a multi-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 just east of the Eisenhower Tunnel. A Colorado Department of Transportation camera shows at least eight cars stopped next to the Exit 216 sign -- some cars appear to have spun out. The sheriff's office said I-70 east is closed at the tunnel. The department did not release an estimated reopening time. Deputies said injuries are unknown. However, FOX31 will continue to track this crash and update the story as new information is released. Little information was immediately released on the cause of the crash, but heavy snow has been falling in the high country all morning. I-70 was closed from C-470 to Silverthrone for several hours but has since reopened. The Colorado Department of Transportation said the crash is causing an eight-minute delay. This is a developing story; stay tuned for updates.
