Multi-car accident near Atlantic Ave exit sends 14 to hospital
A multi-vehicle collision occurred on Wednesday afternoon on the southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike in Palm Beach County, resulting in the closure of all lanes. Emergency responders, including units from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, were called to the scene just before 1 p.m. The crash involved two SUVs, a minivan, and a semi tractor trailer carrying automobiles, near the Atlantic Avenue exit. While two other vehicles were near the accident site, they were not affected. Initial reports indicated the involvement of five to six vehicles, with a total of 14 individuals taken to local hospitals, including one person who was transported with serious injuries. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue classified this incident as a level 2 mass casualty event, involving 11-20 patients, and later cleared the scene, reopening all southbound lanes, albeit with possible delays. The Florida Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation, and as of now, the cause of the accident remains unknown.
