Mt. Zion honors sledding accident victim with ‘LIVE. LIKE. JACK. Day’ proclamation

MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) -- As Mt. Zion is still mourning the loss of a fifth-grade student, they are honoring him with his own village-wide day. Jack Brinkoetter was killed in a snow sledding accident on Jan. 5, and the same accident left fellow fifth-grader Charlie Spurlock in critical condition. To honor Brinkoetter's life, the Mayor of Mt. Zion, Lucas Williams, is proclaiming April 23, 2025, as "LIVE. LIKE. JACK. Day." He was a son, brother and friend in Mt. Zion and was known for his energy, kindness and smile. "Jack embodied a spirit of joy, generosity, and compassion that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him," Williams said. "And the memory of Jack continues to inspire others to live with the same courage, enthusiasm, and love that he so effortlessly shared each day." According to Williams, the phrase "LIVE. LIKE. JACK" symbolizes a call to action: to be kind, to help others, to smile often, and to live life to the fullest. He is also urging village residents to honor Brinkoetter by embracing the values he lived by -- kindness, compassion, friendship, and his love of music and dancing. "Let us come together on this day--and every day--to LIVE. LIKE. JACK," Williams added.
