MSP trooper and two others hurt in I-96 crash in Detroit
A trooper with the Michigan State Police and two others were hurt over the weekend in an accident on the westbound lanes of Interstate 96 in Detroit. The collision occurred near Fullerton Avenue around 11 a.m. The trooper was examining a single-vehicle crash on the left side of the freeway when their patrol car was hit from behind by a Jeep Cherokee, which caused the patrol car to collide with the original crash's vehicle. The trooper and two Jeep passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital by Detroit Fire/EMS. The incident caused temporary closure of the freeway for investigation. According to F/Lt. Mike Shaw, it serves as a reminder for drivers to be cautious and reduce speed during wet weather conditions. The driver involved not only was speeding for the conditions but also had three of four tires excessively worn, contributing to the loss of control and subsequent crash.
