MSP investigates deadly crash on US-131 in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A crash on US-131 in Grand Rapids Wednesday morning was deadly, police say. It happened around 5:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of US-131 over 6th Street, just north of the I-196 interchange. A view of the crash from a News 8 camera mounted on a nearby building showed what appeared to be a van or large SUV with significant damage. Michigan State Police did not immediately release much information about the crash, saying only it was fatal and that more details would be available later. The highway was down to one lane coming up on the Leonard Street exit. Northbound traffic seemed to be backed up as far south as Hall Street.
