Motorcyclist dies after Murfreesboro crash

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — An investigation is underway after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Murfreesboro Thursday evening. The crash happened near the intersection of South Church Street and South Rutherford Boulevard around 7:20 p.m. According to Murfreesboro police, officers immediately began CPR before crews with the Murfreesboro Fire Department and Rutherford County Emergency Services took over medical care. The motorcyclist—who has not been identified—was then rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the other car involved in the crash was not injured, police said. A preliminary investigation reportedly reveals that the driver of a Ford Taurus was traveling southbound in the left turn lane on South Church Street, failed to yield and collided with the motorcyclist. Officials added the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on South Church Street in the right turn lane when the crash occurred. Another motorcyclist was reportedly following the first bike and was able to brake in time to avoid a collision. Church Street was blocked at South Rutherford Boulevard but has since reopened. The Murfreesboro Police Department's Fatal Accident Crash Team has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and is working to determine if speed was a contributing factor. No additional information was immediately released.
