Motorcyclist dies after 3-vehicle crash on Oregon highway

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A motorcyclist died after a three-vehicle crash along Highway 126 Sunday afternoon, according to Oregon State Police. Just before 2 p.m. Sunday, OSP responded to a three-vehicle crash involving two motorcycles near milepost 2.7 in Lane County. A preliminary investigation found that a white Volvo 240, came to a stop in the eastbound lane of Highway 126 to make a left turn into a mobile home park by Rose Hill Road when the car was rear-ended by a Harley Davidson. The crash sent the motorcyclist, identified as 38-year-old Brandon Oetken of Florence, to the ground. Another Harley Davidson then struck the back of the crashed Harley, causing that driver to lose control. The second Harley slid about 150 feet before coming to a stop, OSP said. Good Samaritans then came to the aid of the motorcyclists. However, Oetkin died at the scene, according to authorities. The second motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the Volvo was taken to the hospital as a precaution after reporting pain.
