Motorcyclist critically injured in I-481 crash in Cicero
CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- A serious motorcycle crash closed Interstate 481 South for several hours in Cicero on Wednesday morning, July 15. A New York State Police statement said the crash happened around 9:05 a.m., when a 2017 Harley-Davidson hit the back of a Mazda CX-50 SUV. Troopers found during a preliminary investigation that 29-year-old Zachary Mills, of Oswego, was driving the motorcycle southbound on I-481 when he approached the SUV. As traffic slowed, the SUV's driver signaled a right turn, slowed, and began to merge into the adjacent lane. Mills did not notice the SUV's reduced speed and ran into the left rear of the vehicle. Police said the impact threw Mills from the motorcycle, and he ultimately hit the guardrail. Mills suffered severe injuries and was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. The SUV's driver was not injured. Officials needed to close the I-481 for several hours as the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene, the statement said. The roadway was later reopened. An investigation is ongoing.
