Motorcycle club grieves increasing number of deadly accidents

The close-knit motorcycle community came together to support one of their own on Thursday evening, as she was removed from life support. Shannan Burton had been in a serious crash on Mountain View Corridor in West Valley City the day before, which left her in critical condition. "Our plan was to still be riding motorcycles when we're 70 years old," said Randy Hulinsky, her husband of 15 years. "But now, I'll be honoring her memory in a different way." Hulinsky shared that Burton was a cautious rider who believed in embracing life to the fullest. As he recounted the events leading up to the accident, he mentioned how he was unable to reach Burton and had to find out through social media that she was involved in the crash. These heartbreaking tragedies can happen suddenly and unexpectedly, as seen by the increasing motorcycle fatalities in Utah this year. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, motorcycle fatalities have risen by 60% compared to last year, with 19 reported deaths so far this year. The Department is urging both drivers and riders to follow safety protocols on the road to prevent further accidents. As Hulinsky and his family faced the difficult decision of removing Burton from life support at Intermountain Health in Murray, their fellow motorcycle enthusiasts stood by them in solidarity. The community camaraderie was evident as Hulinsky acknowledged their support, emphasizing that they all share a special bond through their love for riding. In the hopes of raising awareness and preventing more families from experiencing such tragedies, Hulinsky stressed the importance of road safety for both drivers and riders.
