Mother's Day accident on 60 Freeway leaves 1 dead and 32 injured
A fatal tour bus crash on the 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights early Sunday morning resulted in the death of one person and the hospitalization of 32 individuals, two of whom are in critical condition. Los Angeles County Fire Department Public Information Officer Fred Fielding reported that emergency units were dispatched at 5:07 a.m. to respond to a collision involving fire near Hacienda Boulevard. The crash involved a tour bus and a Nissan SUV, with the latter fully engulfed in flames upon arrival of the crews. The driver of the Nissan, who was the sole occupant, tragically passed away in the incident. Additionally, 31 passengers on the tour bus were unharmed, while the remaining 32 were taken to nearby hospitals, including the two in critical condition. The bus sustained significant damage, and a hazardous materials squad was called to the scene to prevent any fuel leaks. Witnesses described the chaotic and rapid unfolding of the crash, with one driver highlighting the toll of the tragedy occurring on Mother's Day. As authorities work to clear the freeway, drivers are urged to find alternate routes, as some lanes may open by 8 a.m.
