Mother shoot and kills monkey truck Mississippi; protecting her children
In Mississippi, following a truck accident where monkeys escaped, a homeowner had to make a tough decision to protect her family. Jessica Bond Ferguson recalled the moment her 16-year-old son spotted a monkey in their yard near Heidelberg and alerted her. Concerned about potential diseases the monkeys might be carrying, Jessica decided to take action. "I did what any other mother would do to protect her children," she explained in a conversation with The Associated Press. After attempting to scare off the monkey with shots, she unfortunately had to fatally wound it. Authorities were notified and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks took custody of the monkey. The incident stemmed from a previous truck accident where Rhesus monkeys had escaped; most were killed, but three remained at large. Despite initial concerns about disease, officials later clarified that the monkeys were not infectious, yet they needed to be dealt with due to their aggressive behavior.
