Mother passes away, sons harmed in San Mateo collision

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening in San Mateo, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old woman named Yina Marcela Ramos Bello, a resident of South San Francisco. The woman was driving a Toyota Prius with her two young sons, ages 5 and 7, on Alameda de las Pulgas when a 75-year-old man driving a Ford SUV allegedly ran a red light while exiting Highway 92. The Ford collided with the Prius, causing fatal injuries to the woman and serious injuries to the two boys. The 7-year-old remains in critical condition according to a relative. The man driving the Ford, who prefers to remain unnamed, expressed deep remorse for the incident, stating that his brakes failed as he attempted to stop on a downhill road. He shared his heartfelt sorrow, acknowledging that he will bear the weight of this tragedy for the rest of his life. The driver clarified that he was not impaired while driving.
