Mother dies in accident near Lake Mille Lacs; state patrol reports husband and 5 children injured
A tragic accident near Lake Mille Lacs claimed the life of a 34-year-old mother from Hazelton Township, Minnesota, on Friday evening. The crash occurred on northbound Highway 169 and Tame Fish Lake Road in Aitkin County when her SUV, towing a fish house, collided with an eastbound pick-up truck at an intersection. The woman later passed away at a hospital in Onamia. Her husband, two daughters (ages 9 and 11), and three sons (ages 3, 13, and 17) sustained non-life threatening injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the pick-up truck and his passenger also suffered non-life threatening injuries. All occupants of the SUV were wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. A local GoFundMe page established for the family is close to reaching its target of $20,000. This tragic incident is among nearly 60 deadly crashes in the state so far this year, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's traffic safety snapshot dashboard.
