Mother accused in fatal Maplewood collision: 'My child was trapped beneath the vehicle'

A St. Paul mother has been accused of causing a tragic drunk driving crash in Maplewood that resulted in the death of her baby. The incident occurred on Saturday when the driver, identified as 28-year-old Rachale Peloquin, was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.172, more than two times over the legal limit. The crash, which happened on Highway 36, led to the death of a 1-year-old baby named Revon Melvin Anthony Todd, with two other children and a passenger sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle at a high speed on an exit ramp, resulting in the vehicle rolling into a swamp. Despite efforts by emergency responders to save the baby, tragically, the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Peloquin, who initially claimed responsibility for the crash but later changed her story, has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide. Reports indicate that alcohol and cannabis use were factors in the incident, with law enforcement finding empty alcohol bottles along the vehicle's path. Peloquin faces serious charges related to the crash that claimed the life of her baby.
