WHITESTOWN, Ind. -- The Boone County Sheriff's Office has provided an update on a recent tragedy involving a military vehicle that led to the loss of a member of the Indiana National Guard. Spc. Terry Frye from Lafayette, a dedicated member of the Guard, lost his life in a crash on I-65 near Whitestown. Additionally, three guardsmen sustained severe injuries in the incident, which involved a military Humvee, a white SUV, and a car hauler truck. The guardsmen were en route from the Frankfort Armory to Camp Atterbury for training when the accident occurred. The latest details revealed that the driver of the Humvee was a 21-year-old from Ingalls, with the other passengers being a 27-year-old from Washington and a 23-year-old from Carmel. The crash report indicated that a car hauler, driven by a 56-year-old from Brooklyn, New York, had to swerve abruptly to avoid stopped traffic, leading to the Humvee running off the road, rolling over, and colliding with a Subaru. The driver of the car hauler is now in custody with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. U.S. Senator Jim Banks and others have commented on the situation, emphasizing the need for support and sensitivity in such tragic circumstances. Indiana Gov. Mike Braun expressed heartfelt condolences to the soldier's loved ones during this difficult time.
