More charges, deportation possible for suspects in deadly Grapevine Lake jet ski hit-and-run

Law enforcement officials have stated that additional charges may be brought as the inquiry continues into the deadly jet ski hit-and-run that occurred in Grapevine during the Memorial Day weekend.18-year-old Ava Moore tragically lost her life when she was struck by a jet ski while kayaking on Grapevine Lake. The suspected driver, 21-year-old Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, was apprehended on Tuesday after fleeing the scene with another person, 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo. There are currently no charges against the passenger who remained on shore. Gonzalez and Perozo were found and arrested at a Dallas residence, although their relationship is still unknown. Texas Game Warden Captain Joseph Quintero credited diligent detective work and 900 tips for leading to the suspects' capture. As the investigation progresses, authorities will use technology to reconstruct the crash. Meanwhile, as Moore's family mourns her loss, law enforcement emphasizes adherence to the "50-foot rule" for jet skiers, and it has been revealed that the suspects in the hit-and-run are Venezuelan nationals who are in the U.S. illegally. After facing state charges, they will be turned over to ICE for potential deportation. Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the incident on social media, advocating for swift justice in the case.
