Mooresville police officer involved in serious crash

MOORSVILLE, Ind. — A Mooresville police officer was involved in a crash on Saturday afternoon. According to the Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department, its officers were called the 400 block of Samuel Moore Parkway on Saturday to investigate a "violent domestic" incident. Initial reports police received indicated a male had been seen striking a female inside a vehicle in the area. MMPD reported that, when one of its officers arrived at the scene, the male subject began "fighting and resisting." A second Mooresville policer officer subsequently began to respond to the scene to help detain the suspect. While the second officer was on their way to Samuel Moore Parkway, they crashed in to the 200 block of East Main Street. The officer involved in the crash was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for evaluation after the crash. MMPD reported that the officer is currently "conscious and alert." Police did not provide any further information on the circumstances that led to the crash. It's also unclear if any other drivers were involved or injured in the crash. At the scene on Samuel Moore Parkway, police "subdued" the suspect and transported him to the Morgan County Jail. MMPD indicated that the suspect faces numerous preliminary charges. Police have also accused the suspect of kicking out the back window of a patrol car. MMPD did not specify exactly how officers subdued the suspect. Police also didn't provide any of the suspect's identifying information like name and age. In a post published on Facebook around 2 p.m., the Mooresville Fire Department asked motorists to avoid the 200 block of East Main Street while crews worked at the crash scene. First responders shut down East Main Street from Maple Lane to Franklin Street for a short time after the crash. MMPD indicated that the Morgan County Serious Crash Investigation Team has been tasked with examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. This is a developing story; check back for updates
