Montgomery County DA clears Limerick police in chase leading to crash that killed 3 teens
Limerick Township police were found to have not committed any legal infractions when responding to a call last month that resulted in a tragic crash, stated the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. The investigation into the incident, which claimed the lives of three teenagers, focused solely on assessing any potential law violations by the police, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. The events unfolded after Limerick police were alerted to a potential theft at Target in Royersford on June 3. A police officer observed a Toyota Camry exiting the parking lot without its headlights on and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the Camry, who did not possess a Pennsylvania driver's license, instead chose to evade the police. The resulting high-speed pursuit culminated in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of the three teens. The DA's office confirmed that the driver's lack of experience, coupled with speeding in an attempt to escape law enforcement, was the primary cause of the tragic accident. This conclusion was reached after it was determined that the police had not acted unlawfully during the incident, as per a news release. A touching balloon release event in memory of the three teens was held by family and friends, with over 100 people gathering in Spring City to honor their lives. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele expressed condolences for the devastating loss suffered by the families and the community as a whole.
