Missouri man, 80, dies in Shannon County car accident

UPDATE 2/6/26: The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) revealed new details in the single-vehicle crash in Shannon County on Thursday. According to MSHP's updated crash report, the 80-year-old man got out of his 2003 Toyota Tundra to secure a fence. However, the car was not put in park, causing the vehicle to go forward and run the driver over. The next of kin have been notified of his passing. Original Story (2/5/26, 4:53 p.m.) SHANNON COUNTY, Mo. — An 80-year-old Pacific, Missouri man died Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Shannon County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said. The patrol’s crash report shows the wreck occurred about 12:55 p.m. on County Road 359, roughly 10 miles east of Akers. According to the report, the 80-year-old man was operating a 2003 Toyota Tundra when it struck a pedestrian in the road before continuing and hitting a stump and then a tree. The driver was pronounced dead by Shannon County Deputy Coroner Eugene Dotson at 2:12 p.m. His body was taken to Wilson Funeral Home in Salem. This is the third fatality reported so far in 2026 by MSHP Troop G, compared with four at the same point last year.
