Middle Tennessee teen killed in crash at Duck River Raceway Park
A 17-year-old student was killed during a race in a tragic car accident that shocked students and families, according to the Sante Fe School. Norman Bentlee Potts passed away after his car flipped while racing on June 20 at Duck River Raceway. Bentlee loved racing and cars, and was frequently at the Duck River Raceway, and often shared updates on NASCAR races over his Sante Fe School's morning announcements, where he was a rising senior. In the school's statement they share Bentlee was, "a cherished member of our school family whose smile, personality, and enthusiasm touched the lives of many. Students and staff looked forward to hearing his NASCAR updates during our morning televised announcements, and his presence will be greatly missed throughout our halls and classrooms." Bentlee was described as a young man with his whole life ahead ahead of him, and touched the lives of many in the racing community. "We know there are risks when we strap into a race car, but that doesn’t make it any easier when tragedy strikes," a statement from the raceway reads. "Last night changed a lot of lives forever. Bentlee wasn’t just another racer who came through our gates. He was part of our racing family. He had a passion for the sport and a love for being at the racetrack. Seeing the hurt across our pits, grandstands, last night and the community today shows just how many people cared."
