Midair collision in Canada kills 2 student pilots: Witnesses describe "pillar of black smoke"
Two student aviators tragically lost their lives in a midair collision in southern Manitoba, Canada on Tuesday. The incident involved small Cessna planes from Harv's Air pilot training school, where the students were practicing takeoffs and landings. Despite the planes being outfitted with radios, it seems the pilots did not see each other during their attempted landings. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the fatalities but withheld further details during a press briefing. One of the pilots was identified by a relative as 20-year-old Savanna May Royes. The flight school, in operation for over 51 years, provides training for aspiring pilots from Canada and around the world. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash, which occurred near the town of Steinbach, located approximately 42 miles south of Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital city.
