Michigan man flown from crash scene after nearly hitting deer
A man from Macomb County was airlifted to a nearby hospital after a car accident caused by an attempt to avoid hitting a deer in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on April 22 on US-131 near East 50 Road in Wexford County, as per a press release from the Michigan State Police released on Thursday. There were five individuals in the vehicle traveling southbound on US-131 when the driver, a 23-year-old woman from Grand Rapids, swerved to avoid the deer. The vehicle flipped over into the median, resulting in three passengers being thrown out. One of them, a 20-year-old man from Clinton Township, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Traverse City Munson Hospital for treatment. The other two passengers, a 22-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man from Grand Rapids, were also ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. The driver and another passenger in the vehicle were unharmed, with the driver being the sole individual who had buckled up. Lieutenant Ashley Miller emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts for protection in such situations, highlighting that they not only keep you in your seat but also inside the vehicle. Lt. Miller added, "We are noticing an increase in drivers not wearing their seat belts. Strapping on your seat belt could be a lifesaving action." The response to the accident involved troopers from the Cadillac post along with assistance from the Cadillac Fire Department and MMR.
