Miami Hurricanes player detained following deadly Largo collision
A Miami Hurricanes linebacker was taken into custody on Friday following a collision in Largo that resulted in the death of a woman and two children. Adarius Hayes, aged 20, surrendered himself to authorities to face charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving in relation to the incident that occurred on May 10. The Largo Police Department confirmed in a press release that Hayes was operating a Dodge Durango recklessly, reaching speeds of nearly twice the posted limit before colliding with Gail Price's Kia Soul as she attempted to turn left onto Orange View Drive. The police statement outlined that Hayes' dangerous driving behavior, including excessive speed and reckless lane changes, directly contributed to the tragic deaths of the victims. Another occupant of the Kia, 58-year-old Herbert Riveria, sustained serious injuries but survived the crash. Hayes, a highly recruited athlete from Largo High, decided to join Miami after receiving offers from various prestigious college football programs. During his freshman year, he appeared in a dozen games primarily on special teams. This is an evolving news story; stay tuned for further developments.
