Miami developer George Pino faces new manslaughter charge in fatal Biscayne Bay boat collision
Miami-Dade prosecutors have recently charged real estate broker George Pino with an additional count of manslaughter in connection to a tragic boating accident during a Labor Day outing in 2022. The incident led to the death of 17-year-old Luciana "Lucy" Fernandez and severe injuries to another teenager. This new charge, along with the existing vessel homicide charge, resulted from Pino allegedly committing actions that led to Fernandez's death through negligence. The prosecution's decision to press this charge followed testimony from witnesses, including teenage girls on the boat who mentioned alcohol consumption before the crash. The boating trip, organized by Pino's daughter for her 18th birthday, ended in tragedy when the boat capsized in Biscayne Bay, causing injuries to several passengers. Despite criticisms surrounding the investigation conducted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Pino's defense lawyer has refuted the new manslaughter charge, asserting the accident was not a deliberate crime.
