Metal plates fly onto highway after crash in Burlington, MA
During the morning commute in Burlington, Massachusetts, a person was hospitalized on Thursday after a car collided with a tractor-trailer, causing large metal plates to be scattered onto Interstate 95. The incident occurred on the northbound side of the highway at around 6:30 a.m. The truck involved was operated by George Goffredo, who was transporting steel plates for his family's business. Despite the plates being securely fastened, the impact of the crash caused them to dislodge. Fortunately, no other vehicles were hit by the plates that landed on the opposite side of the highway. The driver of the car sustained serious injuries and was taken to Lahey Hospital for treatment. Emergency responders were promptly notified of the accident thanks to Goffredo's Apple Watch automatically calling 911 upon sensing the collision. Cleaning up the metal plates from the roadway took over an hour, with traffic affected until 9:15 a.m. Goffredo expressed relief that no fatalities occurred and emphasized the potential dangers that could have resulted from the incident. The Massachusetts State Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash or mentioned any potential charges.
