Merced County highway closed due to fatal crash
In Merced County, California, the California Highway Patrol closed a two-lane highway due to a fatal accident involving a semi-truck and a sedan. The incident occurred on Highway 140, east of Arboleda Avenue. When a 31-year-old woman from Le Grand was speeding in her Honda sedan eastbound, she attempted to overtake slower vehicles by crossing into the westbound lane. To avoid a collision with an oncoming semi-truck, she veered to the right but lost control, leading to a collision with the semi's driver side. The sedan caught fire, resulting in the woman's death at the scene. The semi driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be shared as it develops.
